Odd Ball Art Co. Review and Giveaway! (Giveaway closed)

Etsy Feature:
Odd Ball Art Co.

Interview with Elizabeth from Odd Ball Art Co. :

~Tell us about yourself, Elizabeth.~

I am 29 yrs. Old and I am a freelance Artist. I live in Cottam Ontario with my husband Adam and all of our animal kids. I have a doodle named Isabelle, 3 cats Punky, Maxwell, and ChiChi and a rabbit name Lou C. I started going to college wanting to do fashion design but 2 yrs into it I realized that it was the fine arts that I enjoyed much, much more. I took some art courses but ended up having to end my college years due to lack of funding. I continued studying art on my own and it’s been about six years now and I enjoy it a lot, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I just discovered Etsy last week and thought it would be neat to open a shop to sell some of my work. I opened my shop Oddball Art Co. up on Monday November 8 2010 and I sell original acrylic paintings, and glass rings. All of my paintings are guaranteed to be 100% original; I will never make any numbered prints or duplications of any kind so all of my works are truly one of a kind.

~What or who inspires you?~

I tend to gather inspiration from everywhere all of the time. I always seem to picture everything as how it would look as a painting, so I paint a fairly large variety of subject matters. If I would have to say who my favorite artist is, I would have to say Salvador Dali, I just love his surreal scenes that are usually so out there, their just amazing. He also paints butterflies a lot and that is a subject matter I am very familiar with as well.

~What is your all-time favorite painting in your shop?~

That’s really a hard question for me, I love all my paintings but after pondering it around for a while I have decided to say ‘Nymphalidae.” It’s so bright and colorful and full of butterflies and flowers you can’t help but feel happy when you look at it.

~My Review~
Elizabeth from Oddball Art Co. was soo wonderful to work with from day 1. She hand painted my one awesome picture to review and sent me some really cool hand blown glass rings.
The painting is so vibrant and fits my personality to a T. The picture doesn't do it much justice...it's so much brighter and very glossy in person. Seriously, I refer to myself as a bright and colorful person. I draw too, and I have a problem doing black and white pictures. I just have to add some color to it or it just doesn't look right! You can tell Elizabeth used some very good paint! As always, I asked my fiance for a second opinion and he loves it too! It is usually very hard to please him so...Bravo Oddball Art Co. ! I have it hanging in my "work" space so it gives me some inspiration to write!
I was also sent some of the Hand Blown Glass Rings to review as well.

What's really amazing about these rings is that there are designs inside the glass! Flowers, Patterns, and Swirls.
How cool is that?
These rings are very well made and have NOT broken on me and I have practically worn them everyday.

Oddball Art Co. is one shop that you should definitely consider when shopping for Christmas gifts!

Bloom and Barnacle Interview and Giveaway!

Interview with Bloom & Barnacle:

~Tell us a little bit about yourself.~
Such an easy question that's always so hard to answer!  I'm from really small town in the middle of the desert, and knew from about age 5 that I wanted to live by the beach.  After a lot of hard work and seemingly crazy decisions, I now do, with my husband/best buddy and boxer dog, Barnacle.  Barnacle (Barney for short) and I spend most of our time joined at the hip. I'm lucky enough that he's allowed to go to my day job with me, and we spend about every other waking second on some kind of craft/art project.  My poor husband has even gotten roped in, and is amazing at decoupage now, actually he's better than I am at this point.=)

~Tell us about your shop Bloom and Barnacle.~
Bloom and Barnacle is our Etsy shop, and pretty much my dream job.  The coolest thing about it is I get to make anything I want and make it available worldwide.  Lately it's become a family endeavor, I've got my husband doing everything from woodwork to packaging, my brother doing inventory and marketing and my mom sewing.  We've been really into Halloween and Christmas decor this year, and early 2011 we're branching into handbags, beach bags, and dog collars!

~What is your all-time favorite item in your shop?~
I honestly think it's the mini stockings.  More or less because I LOVE sweater hunting/thrift store shopping and it gives me a valid excuse.  I love picking out the crazy colors, it's so fun!

~What is your favorite Christmas tradition?~
My favorite old tradition is picking out the tree.  We usually take Barney and let him pick it out.  My favorite new would have to be the Just Dance off.  It's hilarious. Oh, and almost forgot, Swedish family Christmas Eve dinner at my in-laws.  My father in law is from Sweden and is an amazing cook.

One Bath and Body Review

About One Bath And Body:
A new standard of green.  One beautiful world begins with conscientious living. And conscientious living means preventing waste to save the planet, helping us all live more beautifully. ONE is committed to promoting natural beauty without compromising the beauty of the earth, providing eco-friendly products in recyclable, plastic-free packaging to rejuvenate the spirit and save the planet.

ONE takes eco-conscious to the next level, uniting superior natural ingredients and recyclable packaging to offer genuinely earth-friendly products. From pampering bath formulas to nourishing moisturizers, the entire collection is infused with rich essential oils, natural butters and delicate fragrance, energizing the mind and body with quality natural ingredients.

While some green brands stop at natural ingredients, ONE goes beyond healthy formulations by housing the collection in eco-conscious packaging. Because most recycling centers wont accept used plastic lotion and shampoo bottles that take over 1,000 years to biodegrade ONE exclusively packages its unprecedented collection in recyclable cardboard cartons and tins, housing nourishing, natural products in equally planet-friendly containers.
~My Review~

One Bath and Body sent me the I Need This! Natural Bath Fizzer to review. The night I received it in the mail I used it in the tub. Oh my gosh! The scent was wonderful and it seemed like it lasted quite awhile! I used just 1/2 of it and I felt soo good afterwords. I love that the whole package is 100% recyclable and good for our planet. Even if I didn't like the scent (which I do) they have four different scents to choose from. It dissolved pretty well in the tub and didn't leave any bad ring marks around it. One Bath and body says that is like a "Spa Retreat"-they were definitely right about that. I really love my baths and I'm now putting this on my Christmas list.

Euphemania: Our Love Affair With Euphemisms by Ralf Keyes Review and Giveaway (Giveaway Closed)

About Euphemania:
How did "die" become kick the bucket, "underwear" become unmentionables,
and "having an affair" become hiking the Appalachian trail? Originally
used to avoid blasphemy, honor taboos, and make nice, euphemisms have
become embedded in the fabric of our language. EUPHEMANIA traces the
origins of euphemisms from a tool of the church to a form of gentility
to today's instrument of commercial, political, and postmodern
doublespeak.

As much social commentary as a book for word lovers, EUPHEMANIA is a lively and thought-provoking look at the power
of words and our power over them.

About the Author:

Ralph Keyes is the author of fifteen books, including Chancing It, The Courage to Write, and Is There Life After High School? He has been featured on Oprah, the Today show, and other programs, and has written for numerous publications, including GQ and Good Housekeeping. A trustee of the Antioch Writers' Workshop, he lives in Yellow Springs Ohio.

I have to say Euphemania was very funny! I loved every bit of it.
What is a Euphemism?
The act or an example of substituting a mild, indirect, or vague term for one considered harsh, blunt, or offensive.
Can you please give us an example?!
From the book:
"This may pinch a little"
This is my favorite and least liked widely spread Euphemism. Ralph Keyes then goes on to explain how doctors often say pinch when it really doesn't even pinch at all! I absolutely loathe it when they say pinch; not only because they are outright lying...but the fact is : EVERYONE knows that they are lying.

Euphemia is very well written and is definitely entertaining. Ralph tells us why we use euphemisms and gives us some wonderful examples that we see practically everyday! While I was reading this I had to chuckle thinking:" I didn't even think of it that way!" I will surely be reading this book many more times because lets just say....I'm now having  a Love Affair With Euphemisms. I'm just full of jokes, and that is what a book like this does to me...it makes me feel good!
Highly-Very highly Recommended!

Big Little Fan Frames Interview and Giveaway! (Giveaway Closed)

Etsy Feature:
Big Little Fan Frames
Interview with Big Little Fan Frames:

~Tell us a little bit about yourself.~
My 'day job' is a corporate meeting and event planner for a real estate company in Atlanta, GA. I married my college sweetheart 3 years ago and we have two golden retrievers, Charlie and Sammy, that we are absolutely obsessed with! My husband has made me a huge Georgia football fan and we go back to Athens for almost all home games.  I also love traveling, volunteering and spending time with my family.
~What inspired you to start your shop?
I'm 27 so I just finished what we call the "wedding circuit"; between bachelorette parties, showers, engagement parties and weddings, it seemed like we had some sort of wedding event every weekend for the past three years. So, I guess it only makes sense that we are now entering the baby boom phase! With so many of our college friends having babies, I wanted to give them something personal. I looked around and couldn't find exactly what I wanted, so I just decided to make them. After I made a few for gifts, I had friends and family asking me to make some for them, so I decided I'd open up an Etsy page. I have fun making them and I love to see the reaction when they open it!
~What is your all-time favorite item in your shop?~
Being a huge UGA fan, I feel like I should pick a Georgia frame as my favorite, but to be honest, I love the way the Alabama frame turned out. The elephant is just so cute!
~What is your favorite quote or saying?~
We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. Winston Churchill

First of State by Robert Greer Review and Giveaway(Closed)

First of State
Robert Greer
ISBN: 9781556439155

Book Description:
Robert Greer’s latest novel—a prequel to his CJ Floyd mystery series—takes readers back in time to a very young CJ Floyd. It’s 1972, and the 22-year-old decorated war vet has recently returned to Denver from Vietnam with post-traumatic stress disorder. Navigating depression, he finds a friend in World War II vet and amputee Wiley Ames, who shares his passion for rare and valuable western memorabilia.

When Ames and a mysterious Chinese man are found murdered, CJ’s already fragile world threatens to collapse. His attempts to find his friend’s killer are thwarted at every turn, and finally he joins his Uncle Ike’s business as bail bondsman and bounty hunter. Five years later one of Ames’s treasured antique license plates turns up at a Denver flea market, and CJ is once again off and running. The trail to Wiley Ames’s murderer leads CJ down a dark path strewn with backstabbing antique dealers, conniving friends and relatives of Ames’s, and a shadowy musician. Equally a white-knuckle-ride murder mystery and a tale of a traumatized young man coming to terms with his past, First of State features the kind of fresh characters, street-smart dialogue, and ingenious plot twists that have made this series a critical and commercial success.

~About the Author~

Robert Greer, author of the CJ Floyd mystery series, lives in Denver, where he is a practicing surgical pathologist, research scientist, and Professor of Pathology and Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He also edits the High Plains Literary Review, reviews books for National Public Radio, and raises Black Baldy cattle on his ranch near Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

~My Review~
I absolutely love how Robert Greer added a second story line to First of State! I don't know if he meant to keep the readers interested in it by doing so, but he kept me wanting to come back for more! I must say that Mystery is one of my all-time favorite book genres because of the characters and the whole idea of maybe being able to solve the 'mystery'  yourself by developing you own ideas. The characters were absolutely unique and very interesting, ones that surely won't be forgotten-even if Mr. Greer kills them off in the end.  Not many people really pay too much attention to the quotes that are in the beginning of the book...I do! I love quotes and this particular one really piqued my curiosity.
From the book:
Money is the last thing a wise man will hoard-Will Durant
For some reason this particular quote is what made me read this book before all the others and I'm so glad I did!
If you enjoy reading mysteries with awesome characters I highly recommend First of State by Robert Greer!
